Mike Carter Did Everything With Passion And Determination – The Chattanoogan

I recently read the I-75 overpass at exit 11 in Ooltewah will be named for the Honorable Mike Carter. I personally cannot think of a more deserving person than Mike.

I first met Mike Carter when he was the attorney for Sheriff H Q Evatt. It was at this point I realized what a phenomenal attorney he was and his ability to articulate his knowledge of the law. He was later appointed to fill the term of retiring Judge H L Smith in Hamilton County General Sessions Court. Mike had a unique way of presiding over cases, being fair and firm while at times interjecting humor.

I was fortunate to have been part of District 29 and have Mike as my representative. I cannot think of any Tennessee lawmaker who accomplished more for every Tennessean, not just District 29, than Mike Carter. I consider his greatest accomplishment to be putting an end to municipalities in Tennessee being able to bully landowners in unincorporated areas with forced annexation.

Everything Mike Carter attempted, he did with passion and determination. I fear it will be far too long that this state will be blessed with a man of the character of Mike Carter. I know his family is proud to have him honored in such a way to never be forgotten.
