Conway, Thomas “Tom” John – The Chattanoogan

Thomas “Tom” John Conway died at his home on November 28, 2022. He was 58.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Katherine E. (Ellie) Conway, his son Jackson Conway, his mother, Jean M. Doyle, his brother Steven Conway, and several nieces and nephews.

He was born on Sept. 19, 1964. A graduate of Hixson High School, Tom earned a degree in Theater and Speech from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He worked as a professional actor in Chicago and Lexington, Va; he also directed and performed in numerous local productions at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre and elsewhere.

Tom’s wit was legendary; he could lighten a mood better and faster than anyone. Nobody was better at bumming cigarettes, and everybody wanted to be Tom’s friend.

He was an avid history buff and played strategy board games for hours long before the internet existed.

Tom was happiest when he was in a theater, whether onstage or directing, but his proudest accomplishment was his children, and he never tired of telling people about them.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Jim G. Lewis Studio Theater in the UTC Fine Arts Center, 752 Vine Street, Chattanooga, Tn. 37403.

The family requests that friends consider a donation to the charity of their choice in Tom’s name rather than flowers.
