Francis Anthony Crowe

Francis Anthony Crowe

Francis Anthony Crowe went to heaven on Thursday, February 9, 2023.

Husband and best friend to Alice Johnson Crowe for 57 years, he was the third of four children born to Jean and Patrick Crowe on February 27, 1937. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Agnes Sercer and is survived by his brother, Patrick Crowe, Jr. and sister, Margaret Bigner.

Francis graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1955, and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1959. He was an enthusiastic alumni and huge fan of Notre Dame football, Notre Dame women’s basketball, and UTC women’s basketball. Francis married Alice in 1961, and they were joyfully together until her death in 2018. He is survived by his children, Chip (Stefanie), Chris (Carrie), Mary Alice (William), Tim (Chloe) and his grandchildren, Frances, Ellie, Jacob, Will, Luke, Adelaide, Mirabel, James, and Ella.

During his career, Francis worked at Volunteer Life Insurance, Sewanee Supply Company and Provident Life Insurance. An avid golfer (which began with him sneaking onto Brainerd Golf Course as a middle-schooler) he enjoyed playing his favorite courses throughout his life, and “shot his age” at 70. Francis also had a lifelong love of Lake Chickamauga which began in the 1940’s when his family acquired lake property near Chickamauga Dam. The Crowe and Johnson Lakehouse on Waconda Point, which he and his beloved Johnson relatives purchased in the 1970s, is still enjoyed today by his extended family. Anyone visiting the property will see evidence of Francis’s other lifelong passion, which was flower and vegetable gardening.

Francis was a 59-year member of St. Jude Catholic Church, and the family will receive friends there at the Parish Life Center on Friday, March 3, from 6-8 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church on Saturday, March 4, at 2 p.m.

Donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Catholic Church, Notre Dame High School, Chattanooga Area Food Bank and the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee.

Francis had wonderful Irish charm; his ready smile, infectious laugh and big blue eyes will be forever missed by those who love him.
