City has enough new housing
In their infinite wisdom, the city of Ventura and KB Homes (who stands to make money) are trying to push through a high-density development on Vista Del Mar where the old lemon packing plant now stands.
There has been no traffic impact study done, no environmental impact study done, nothing. Seaward, Vista Del Mar, San Jon and Harbor will be severely impacted, as will the freeway access on and off. The beach at Pierpont will be impacted, which is where the bulk of the STVRs the city loves so much are.
Given the amount of building already built or in process, and then the latest study saying up to 30% of Californians are leaving the state for less expensive housing in other states, why is this crazy idea even being considered? Who is on the take here?
This is nuts. We can stop now; we have enough new housing. None of which will house the homeless many of whom are on the streets because they can’t afford their rent. Is this any way to responsibly run a city? Stop the madness.

Higher education just for wealthy
On June 30 an opinion piece in The Star by conservative columnist Dace Potas celebrated the Supreme Court decision on affirmative action, despite its great success. Getting rid of affirmative action not only denies university for people of color but guarantees that higher education will be reserved for the wealthy.
Affirmative action not only gives people of color opportunities they would not experience otherwise, it offers diversity, an important element in becoming a productive citizen who treats those with differences fairly.
The Supreme Court has gone from serving and protecting the rights of Americans to a MAGA majority in danger of turning our nation into a theocracy.
