Wilson, Beverly Louise Mathis – The Chattanoogan

Beverly Louise Mathis Wilson was born Nov. 7, 1917, to the union of the late Pearl R. Mathis and Beatrice (Silvers) Mathis. She departed this life on Saturday, June 24, 2023.

She grew up in Dayton and graduated from Carver High School. She later attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, graduating with a degree in Nursing. She returned to Chattanooga to begin practicing at Walden Hospital where she met and married the love of her life, Earl Lewis Wilson, Sr. and to that union were born nine children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Lewis Wilson Sr.; four brothers, Elmer, Cecil, Harold and Amos Mathis; two sisters, Jacquelyn M. Saxon and Martha M. Lowery; and four daughters, Lexine Wilson Nance, Diane Wilson Cole, Brenda Regina Wilson and Shirley Elysa Wilson.

She left to cherish, one brother, John A. (Margaret) Mathis; a devoted sister-in-law, Lottie Mathis, Phoenix, Az.; a loyal son-in-law, Herman Earl Nance, Chattanooga; and children, Beverly Earline Wilson-Doss, Dunlap, Conious Anita Wilson-Price, Chattanooga, Earl Lewis (Mildred) Wilson, Jr., Hinesville Ga., Robert Wesley (Katrina) Wilson, Hixson, and Juana Joyce (Clint) Wilson-Roberts, Hixson. She is also survived by thirty-two grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and an amazing devoted caregiver grandson, Clinton E. Roberts, III, Hixson.

Our angel on earth is now in heaven, her presence will be greatly missed.

Public viewing will be held 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at New City Fellowship, 2424 E. 3rd St. in Chattanooga, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service. Interment: Forest Hills Cemetery.
