John S. “Pierre” Clay, Jr.
John S. “Pierre” Clay, Jr. was called home to rest on August 27, 2023.
He was born July 8, 1947, to the late John S. Clay, Sr and Mary Willie Clay. He attended Chattanooga Public School. He retired from Eureka Foundry. He was the Chairman of the Deacon Board at Greater St. Mary MB Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Beverly Kay Clay “Biba Kay”, his parents, brother, Leo Clay and sister, Rita Clay Cooper.
His memories will be forever cherished by his surviving family, which includes son, Dewayne L. McGhee, Sr; daughter: Letonda Hunter; grandchildren: Dewayne McGhee, Jr., Lynesha Pittman, Jasmine McGhee, Kiana McGhee and Christian Fisher; great-grandchildren: Alantis Patrick, Jailin Grant, Camarion McGhee, Jordyn Caldwell, and Christian Fisher, Jr; sisters: Mae Lockett of Chicago, IL, Princella (Cleveland) Faison of Dudley, NC, Colline (Charles) Love, Collee (Robert) Freeman both of Chattanooga, Sharon Britt of Sacramento, CA, Ora (Lebron) Thrasher of Chattanooga; brother: Luttrell Clay of Chattanooga; sister-in-law: Princess (Herbert) Elder, Christine Emry, Kimela (Daryl) Toney, Gwendolyn Rakestraw and Avis (Willie) Chambliss; Brother-in-law: Jacob Love, Terry (Liz) King, Terry Patterson, Aaron Patterson and DeAngelo Willingham; special friends: Randolph Yancey and Redd Hardy.
Public viewing will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the funeral home. A noon funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Greater St. Mary Baptist Church, 5304 Slayton Avenue. Interment will take place at Forest Hills Cemetery.
