Robert “Bob” Mathieson, 93, of Signal Mountain, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Alexian Village.

Bob was born on November 12, 1929 in Aberdeen, Scotland to the late Ben and Jessie Mathieson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances following 60 years of marriage. A son, Robert (Matt) Mathieson, and a brother Ben Mathieson.

Surviving are his grandson, Justin, and a cousin, Marjorie.

Bob immigrated to the United States in 1954 following his graduation as a mechanical engineer from Robert Gordons College, Aberdeen and after serving two years in the British army in Germany. He became a U.S. citizen in 1959.

Bob started work as a field engineer soon after his arrival in the U.S. and following a variety of construction projects, he became engaged in nuclear research and power reactor construction. He pursued reactor construction with AMF and Westinghouse Electric Companies.

Bob traveled extensively with his family in the U.S. and for some years in Turkey, Iran, and Japan. He eventually retired to Signal Mountain.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 3, from 12-2 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home. The family will have a private interment at St. Augustine Catholic Church Columbarium.
