God called Pastor Edward Lamar Thompson from labor to reward on July 20, 2023, at his Hampton, Georgia residence.

Pastor Thompson was born to the late Emmitt and Thelma Thompson in Charleston, South Carolina.

His family relocated to Chattanooga, and he graduated from Howard High School in 1974. He attended Moody Bible Institute. God called him to preach and teach The Word and he studied.

He was ordained by the late Bishop Jack Hart in 2001 and served as pastor of Born Again Christian Church of Chattanooga until his retirement. He was employed at McKee Bakery (Collegedale) as a truck driver. He enjoyed The Word of God, playing the bass guitar, and his family.

Pastor Thompson was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Mrs. Laural Denise Thompson; and his only son, Mr. Nicholas Maurice Thompson, brothers, Ruben Wayne Thompson, and Maurice Thompson; two grandchildren, Gabrielle Thompson, and Kendrick Irvin, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his daughters, Nichole Thompson and Tonya Thompson of Chattanooga; and grandchildren, Monica, Arica, Alana, Kayla, and Nina, all of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Leilani and Lia of Chattanooga; brothers, Ronald (Carolyn) Thompson of Chattanooga, TN, and Gerald (Mabel) Thompson of Montgomery, Alabama; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis Lattimore and Kimberly (Pastor Donald) Rollins; along with a great host of many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

Burial was in Griffin Memorial Gardens, in Griffin, Ga.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m. at Born Again Christian Church, 1228 Latta St., Chattanooga, Tn. 37406, with Pastor Donald E. Rollins, Sr. as eulogist.

The church will be open one hour prior to the services, to receive guests and floral arrangements.
