Marcelyn Irene “Marcie” Brainerd
Marcelyn Irene “Marcie” Brainerd, 73, of Chattanooga, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
She grew up a proud “Buckeye” in Belmont County, Ohio. Marcie attended Freedom Church in Soddy-Daisy. She earned her bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University and master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Marcie worked at and later volunteered at the Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute. She loved playing cards, telling stories, traveling, the beach, gardening, Irish Step and Jazz dancing, and was very passionate about her faith in Christ. She enjoyed spending quality time with her friends and family. Marcie loved her grandchildren and her grand cat, Freddy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Edna Stobbs and her husband, Bill Brainerd.
Survivors are her sons, Jonathan McGlumphy, Scott McGlumphy, Patrick Brainerd (Sydney); step-son, Douglas Brainerd (Cari); brothers, Richard Stobbs (Barbara) and Brent Stobbs (Judy); grandchildren, Morgaine Beck (Brandon), Jackson Brainerd, Xena Brainerd; great grandchildren, Luka Beck and Alex Beck; nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 12, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Services will be on Tuesday, June 13, at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill West and Pastor Mike Battles officiating. Burial will follow at National Cemetery.
