Fort Stewart soldier killed in aircraft incident on Tuesday night – Savannah Morning News

UPDATE: This story has been updated to reflect the correct aircrafts involved in the crash. A previous Fort Stewart press release stated it was two UH-60 helicopters instead of two HH-60 helicopters. 

A soldier was killed in an aircraft incident at approximately 2 a.m. this morning at the Wright Army Airfield according to Fort Stewart Army officials.

The soldier was assigned to the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division. His identity will be released pending next of kin notification. 

A new HH-60 combat rescue helicopter taxies in at Eglin AFB. Devleopmental testing of the helicopter was recently competed at Eglin. The aircraft is set to replace the Air Force’s aging UH-1N Huey.

The incident involved two HH-60 helicopters, according to the release.

Wright Army Airfield, located at Fort Stewart, has been closed until further notice.
