
Sheldon Stewart Grant, age 81, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life on Monday afternoon, March 13, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Sheldon was born April 12, 1941, in Sangerville, Maine, a son of the late Ralph Curtis and Mary Edna Stewart Grant. He was also preceded in death by a brother, David Grant.
Sheldon was a 1959 graduate of Sangerville High School. Sheldon proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a truck driver most of his working life. Sheldon and his wife worked as park host at Fort Mountain State Park, where Sheldon later became a park ranger and enjoyed the many people they met. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church. He was a member of the VFW and the Dalton American Legion Post #112 where he served in the honor guard for several years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Shirley Kruidenier Grant of the residence; daughters and son-in-law, April and Mark Stanley of Dalton, GA, Annette Hawkins of Rocky Face, GA; sons, Brian and Pamela Grant of East Ridge, TN, and Daniel and Amy Grant of Colora, MD; grandchildren, Jordan and Jordan Grant, Jeremy and Tyler Grant, Justin Grant, Allyson Stanley, Abby Stanley, Brandy and Chris Teran, Alexandra and Wes Ferney, Alivia and Eric Key, Taylor and Jacqulyn Hawkins; brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Victoria Grant of Dover Fox Croft, ME; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Military honors will be provided by the Dalton American Legion Post #112, Tuesday, March 21, at Ponders Melrose Chapel. He will be laid to rest at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, at the Georgia National Cemetery in Cherokee County, Ga.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospitals, Fort Mountain State Park or the Dalton American Legion Post #112 for the Honor Guard.
