Tennessee’s best chance came when Cal Stark was hit by a pitch and Maui Ahuna doubled over the left fielder’s head in the bottom of the fifth. Hunter Ensley flied out to end the threat.
Blake Burke was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the seventh to end the night for Ackenhausen. With another left-hander, Riley Cooper, on the mound, the Vols used a walk and an error on the shortstop to load the bases. However, Ensley grounded out to first.
The Tigers got a run in the first and did not score again until the top of the sixth.
LSU got a run off a wild pitch in the eighth and padded the lead with two more in the ninth off a Josh Pearson home run down the rightfield line.
