Minister Gregory Alan Patterson “G.A.P.”, 60, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023, in a local hospital.

He was born on August 13, 1962 to Rudie Lee and Dorcenia Patterson in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Minister Patterson graduated from Oak Ridge High School and served in the United States Army. He was a dedicated member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Ministry Staff, Mass Choir, Praise Team, and Finance Ministry. He was formerly employed by Lexus of Chattanooga. He was currently employed by West Rock Paper Company as a forklift driver. Minister Patterson was a recording artist and debuted, “Amazing Love” his lifelong dream of spreading the gospel through music. He had a contagious smile that could light up any room and was a hard worker. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Minister Patterson was a prayer warrior who loved the Word of God. He was happiest when he was counseling and mentoring others and had a supportive example of forgiveness that could be seen in his daily walk. Min. Patterson was compassionate and would help anyone he could. He also enjoyed grilling and spending time with family and friends.

Minister Patterson was preceded in death by his parents, Rudie Lee and Dorcenia Patterson; siblings, Mary Cherry-Marks and Charlotte Patterson; and daughter, Tianja Duff.

Survivors include his loving wife of eight years, Jerri Lynn Patterson; devoted children, Chanson Hall of Oak Ridge, Gregory Duff of Knoxville, TN, Camille (Darius) Bostic of Midland, NC, Jasmine Russell of Knoxville, Lanesha (Tremaine) Alexander of Chattanooga, and Kevisha Steen of Oak Ridge; 30 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Byron D. Patterson, sister, Belinda Jill (Elder Darrius) Waters, brothers-in-law, Herbert (Sheila) Booker, Perry Dean Booker, and James (Rhonda) Booker; sisters-in-law, Geneva Booker, Mary E. Booker, and Tracy Booker; best friend, James Hargrove; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.

Minister Patterson will lie in state on Sunday, March 19, from 9-11 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Samuel R. Jackson as the eulogist.

Burial will be on Monday, March 20, at 10:30 a.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
