James William Proffitt, 89, of Harrison, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 25, 2023.
James was born July 20, 1933 in Evensville, Tn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Halick Proffitt and Hattie Suzy (Stinnett) Proffitt.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen Delores (Hill) Proffitt. He is also survived by two children, James “Rusty” William Proffitt, Jr. (Annette) and Tammy Denise (Proffitt) Ricketts (Morris); six grandchildren, Jake Proffitt (Katrina), Andi Proffitt Nolen (Justin), Jordan Proffitt (Angela), Katie Ricketts Brown (Adam), Schae Ricketts and Chelsea Ricketts; and eight great grandchildren.
James served in the U.S. Navy from from 1955-1957. He was glad to have served his country. He retired from TVA after 25 years.
He was well loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 30 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. A Funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Bill Hullander officiating. Interment with military honors will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
