Steven Banks
The community is invited to enjoy saxophonist and emerging composer Steven Banks in concert at Southern Adventist University on Tuesday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Mabel Wood Hall’s Ackerman Auditorium.
Minoring in jazz studies, Mr. Banks completed his bachelor’s degree in saxophone performance at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington and his master’s degree at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music in Illinois. He captured first prize at the Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions in 2019 and won the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2022.
An advocate for diversity and inclusion in music education, Mr. Banks writes and lectures on the history of Black classical composers. He is affiliated with Ithaca College in New York, the University of Hartford in Connecticut, and the Cleveland Institute of Music in Ohio.
