
Gladys Lance Skelton
Gladys Lance Skelton, 98 of Red Bank, TN beloved mother and grandmother, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 5, 2023.
Gladys was born on December 10, 1924, to the late Joseph and Mary Lance, and grew up in Fyffe, AL. At the age of 16, she relocated to the Red Bank/Chattanooga area and spent 52 happy years there. Gladys was employed by the Hamilton County school system as a baker. She enjoyed embroidery, cooking for her family, baking bread, and especially taking bread to her many friends. Gladys enjoyed decorating her home and treasured the time she spent with her family. She was full of life, considered herself timeless, and never considered herself “old.” Gladys was a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church in Red Bank. She worked in various areas in the church, from cooking to Vacation Bible School, and wherever help was needed.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas B. Skelton; sons, John Robert Gass and Ronnie Lee Gass; siblings, Lorane Cain, Lois Bethune, Clarence Lance, Marie Patton; two grandchildren, Mark Gass and Jerami Massey; and son-in-law, Joe Perkins.
Survivors include her children: Betty Perkins, Judy (Tim) Hixson, Virginia Gass, Jerry (Linda) Gass, and Debby (Michael) Cooper; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Tapestry Hospice and Canopy at Boynton Ridge for their kind and loving care.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 8, at 12 p.m. with Pastor Bill Gardner. Interment will follow in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery at Fyffe, Al.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, Rossville.
