Jacquelyn Johnston Smyth, affectionately known as “Jackie”, of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, died peacefully on the morning of January 10, 2023, at the age of 94.
She was born on Dec. 10, 1928, to Margaret Montgomery Johnston and Garrett Phipps Johnston in Chattanooga.
Jackie was a graduate of Girls Preparatory School and Cumberland College in Vineland, New Jersey.
She loved being outdoors in her garden and she never turned down a good fishing trip or golf invitation. She was an active member of the Lookout Mountain Golf and Country Club throughout most of her life. Although her real passion in life was her family and her love for real estate. She put that passion to good use as Jackie never met a house she didn’t love to fix up or sell.
Jackie was predeceased by her parents, her husband Owen Rockwood Smyth, Sr. (Rocky) and sister, Janet Johnston Strang.
She is survived by her children: Margaret (Margo) Smyth Biringer (Bob) Owen Rockwood Smyth, Jr. (Terry); Braden Smyth; Garrett Smyth (Katy); Grandchildren, Barrett Biringer (Mallory), Tyler Biringer (Catherine), Paige (Ryan Flannagan), Allyson Smyth; Madison Smyth; Richmond Smyth (Eden); Rocky Smyth; Bo Smyth; Great grandchildren; Rhett, Tribb, Porter Biringer.
Friends and family are invited to attend the graveside service at Forest Hill Cemetery, 4016 Tennessee Avenue, Chattanooga, on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. Reception will follow the service.
