Virginia Estelle Coflin Wooden passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at the age of 96.

She was born in Atlanta in 1926 to Luther and Fannie Coflin, originally of Illinois. She moved to Signal Mountain in 1938 where she lived for the rest of her life. She joined Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church and was an active member until her health declined. She was awarded a Presbyterian Women Life Membership in 1996 as was her mother before her.

Virginia was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1943 and the University of Chattanooga in 1947 where she majored in English and Spanish and was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. She met her future husband, Milton, in high school and after he served in the Navy in WWII, they married in 1950 and had four children. She taught Spanish at GPS before starting a family. When her youngest entered kindergarten in 1965, she taught English and Spanish at Red Bank Jr. High and Red Bank High Schools until her retirement in 1988.

Virginia loved to play bridge, to read and always had a houseful of animals.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 41 years, Milton.

Survivors include her daughter, Laura; sons: Dennis (Marsha), Alan (Teri) and Robin (Susan); grandson, Jason; three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed but is in heaven with her parents and husband.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Educational Society of Chattanooga or Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.

Graveside services will be held at noon on Monday, June 19, at the pavilion in Chattanooga Memorial Park with Reverend Margaret Ferguson officiating.
